A good crowdfunding video always:
- puts the creator front and center
- is under 3 minutes in length
- explains the project, and what the money will be used for
- makes people smile
- asks people to back them.
The video might also use humour, creativity, or distinctive stories to give them that special x-factor that ensures the project’s success.
One of the best ways to learn about crowdfunding is to look at what has been done before.
Here are three of my all-time favourite crowdfunding videos.
1. Who Gives a Crap – the toilet paper that builds toilets
via Indiegogo.
Notice: It’s clear about who’s involved, and what they’re trying to do. You know what the product is, and it’s humourous. It’s simple, but powerful. The message is clear, and the production values are high.
2. Hold Your Breath – a short film
Via PledgeMe
Notice: The reason for seeking funding is clear, the story is compelling. It appeals to people on many levels. It uses humour and quick editing to hold your attention.
3. Omnivore Salt
via Kickstarter
Notice: That voice over? That’s Werner Herzog. And yes, that got them blog and press coverage. The video uses beautiful images to clearly tell the story of Omnivore Salt. Herzog’s voice captivates you and makes you watch. By the end of the video, every foodie wants a packet. I certainly did.
I hope these videos give you some inspiration when planning your own. Check out the Your Video Category for more tips on making a video that rocks (and gets you backers)!
What’s your favourite crowdfunding video? I’d love to hear about it in the comments below!
The page says I don’t have access to this content. I’d love to see the other videos. Is there a way to see them?
Hi Dawn, this content is open to all levels. Can you see all 3?
