The world of crowdfunding is filled with the interesting and awesome.
Most crowdfunding projects try to solve a real problem (like solar powered roads), or to launch a new product everyone wants to get their hands on (like the Pebble Watch, or Oculus Rift).
Occasionally, however, the world of crowdfunding dips into the realms of “really? I can crowdfund that?!” Those are the projects I’m going to blog about today.
Be prepared, these crowdfunding projects are NSFW, and are probably going to raise an eyebrow.
1. The Autoblow 2: A Realistic Robotic Oral Sex Stimulator For Men
I mean, it’s just another gadget right? Those fund on Kickstarter and Indiegogo all the time!
Pretty much, except that this crowdfunding project is for a gadget that happens to be for your dick.
Having raised 6 x their $45,000 goal on Indiegogo recently, The Autoblow 2 is now available for presale.
2. Fetish porn
Porn is usually one of the first industries to embrace new technology, and crowdfunding is no exception with the advent of Offbeatr.
It’s a little more complicated than your average crowdfunding platform. Potential crowdfunding projects first have to go through a “voting round” where backers indicate their support. Once they have raised enough votes, the project is made live and is able to collect funds.
It’s no guarantee of success however. This How to Have Anal Sex educational video raced through it’s voting stages, only to raise $520 of its $4000 goal.
3. Boob jobs
MyFreeImplants.com has so far raised over $8 million dollars for ladies looking to… upgrade.
Essentially, a woman trades messages, photos and videos towards her boob job. Men pay for the boob job by sending messages (women get paid $1 per message received), and “negotiating” for photos and videos.
Apparently they become “lasting friends”. I can’t help but feel a little creeped out by this one, but hey – live and let live… I guess.
So there you have it. You really CAN crowdfund anything.
No matter what you’re trying to do, a little humour and sensitivity goes a long way in getting backers.
But if you have a crowdfunding project the people want, you will more than likely make your target – particularly if you can find a… erm… passionate community who want to see it become a reality as well.
