How many times has this happened to you? You’re out of the house and away from your phone charger. You need to access an app on your phone immediately but… the battery has just died.
In the 21st Century, we are incredibly dependent on those little computers in our pocket. They are our links to our friends, and the way we stave off boredom. We use them to navigate the world and check our bank balance. They are a huge blessing, but their battery life often makes them a curse.
Sure, you could invest in a spare battery or portable charger, but how convenient is that? My own power bar requires I also carry around a connector to charge my phone. Forget my power bar, or the cord, and it’s utterly useless.
So I was pretty excited when I found the Indiegogo campaign for the Keycharge.
With this wee product, I’ll now have access to a power boost as long as I have my keys with me.
The device is designed to be all-in-one. Meaning the one unit includes a battery, plug (either Lightning Connector or Micro USB), and a USB charger in one. Earlybirds can pick this up for the utter steal of only US$15. For a little more, your Keycharge can also include a 16GB or 32GB USB key.
That’s right. Storage AND battery all in one device small enough to fit on your keyring.
Created over the last 6 months by Sydney-based brothers Roger and John Lee, the Keycharge promises up to 6 hours more talk time on your device. They’ve partnered their extensive design background with an experienced manufacturer to come up with a working prototype and are now funding to get production underway.
The pair cite Kickstarter’s stringent design category rules as the reason for going with Indiegogo, but are sticking with all-or-nothing funding for a goal of US$10,500.
I really want one of these on my keyring, so I’d really encourage you to back them if you think this is a gadget the world needs to have. And if you agree with me, spread the word!
