Belinda Tuki is on a mission
She wants to provide her grain, dairy, and sugar-free treats through local cafes and boutique supermarkets, and change her community in the process.
Through her company, The Honest Food Company, Belinda has made a name for herself within the fitness and paleo communities. Her current product lines include an all-natural egg-based protein powder; a high-protein grain-free cereal mix; and a range of grain-free protein bars and balls. All her ingredients are organic and ethically sourced.
Having spent the last two years dedicated to building her business, she is now at the point where she can expand and move onto the next step.
She wants to set up a dedicated production kitchen in the Auckland
Her plan is to staff the kitchen with single parents looking to upskill and get back into work.
The dedicated kitchen will act as a base for the business, and also allow her to run health and fitness workshops.
Belinda is looking to raise $35,000 on crowdfunding platform PledgeMe
This will cover the first 6 months of the lease, the fit out, and the council fees.
Raising the funds through crowdfunding means the business will have a ‘grace period’ to ramp up to full production and become profitable. Part of the plan is to use this time to secure contracts to supply cafes and specialty supermarkets.
Rewards include samples of all The Honest Food Company’s products, a Spring backers party, health and fitness workshops, and my favourite – The Honest VIP – where you get samples of all Belinda’s wonderful creations for the rest of 2014, and provide feedback on whether they should become part of her core product line.
