Yesterday I told you about this amazing film you can help fund.
Today, I present a way to help scientists (and hobbyists) have free access to detailed climate data in real-time, from all over the world.
Yeah. Imagine that, rather than a select few climate monitoring sites, we have potentially millions of them, all sending data back to a centralised, open-source platform. Imagine what kinds of things climate scientists could extrapolate from that data!
Imagine the kinds of discoveries that will open up for the more computer-literate future generations.
And the longer these things are out there, and the more places they are, the better and more reliable that data is going to be.
It’s projects that this that make me excited for the future, but it desperately needs help. With just two days to go, it is just (around $3000) under its funding goal.
Being Kickstarter, it’s all or nothing. If you think this is going to make a positive difference to the world, I encourage you to back it, even at a lower level. Every dollar counts and it just needs to get over the line.
Minimum pledge: US$1
Reward options: varied, but these units are not cheap. The downfall of this project is that, at NZ$230 (including postage), it is probably priced out of the hands of most people. A slightly cheaper version (which you put together yourself) is available for NZ$170. There are plenty of lower-level options if you think this project is worth getting on the road, however, and the website where the data is kept is free and open-source.
Closing: 3pm, Monday 17 June NZ Time
Back it now!
